The entire police force of a northern Philippines province is to be transferred, amid allegations officers were involved with private armies.
A spokesman for Interior Secretary Angelo Reyes said all Abra province’s 529 policemen would be moved.
Media reports said a government investigation had found the police “inept”, and that they had failed to tackle the province’s feuding.
Communist rebels and militias run by politicians are blamed for the trouble.
Mr Reyes said the transfer would “restore law and order in the province of Abra and… pre-empt undue influence on the outcome of an ongoing investigation.”
“We are relieving the entire police force from the provincial director to the lowest uniformed policemen in the province of Abra… effective immediately,” he said in a statement.
At least 10 people were killed in the province in the lead up to last year’s national elections, and violence has continued since then.
So 529 cops are “inept” and being transfered vice fired outright. Doesn’t bode well for the areas they move to does it?
