Where’s the NYT, WaPo, the Guardian or the AP stories about Giuliana Sgrena now? Now that the US Military has been cleared of being a Bushitler/Rovian hit squad why aren’t the same media outlets covering the “acquittal” with the same ferver as the their “verdict without facts?”
The investigation found the car was about 130 yards from the checkpoint when the soldiers flashed their lights as a warning to stop. But the car kept coming and, at 90 yards, warning shots were fired. At 65 yards, when the car failed to stop, the soldiers used lethal force — a machine gun burst that killed Calipari and wounded Sgrena and the driver.
Senior U.S. military officials say it took only about four seconds from the first warning to the fatal shots, but insist the soldiers acted properly under the current rules of engagement.
The investigation failed, however, to resolve one critical dispute: The Americans claim the car was racing toward the checkpoint at about 50 miles per hour, the Italians say it was traveling at a much slower speed.
And somehow I don’t believe the howling moonbats over at the dKos or the DU jungle will be noteing this story either. And, as I guessed, a quick trip thru TalkLefts site shows no sign of the Giuliana “women of a thousand stories” Sgrena story. At least that bunch is consistent: Bad news for Bush equals a hundred blog entries or feet of column space. Good news for Bush equals total silence.
UPDATE: Capt’n Ed notes this story and also reveals another case of CBS News jumping on a story in an effort to smear the military and the Bush administration.
In The Bullpen adds this:
Guiliana Sgrena was scheduled to appear on ‘60 Minutes II’ last night but I did not have the desire to watch it. If anyone caught the show, please shed some insight. Even without watching it I can confidently say she went on about how illegal the war in Iraq is, how evil President Bush is and how U.S. soldiers intentionally tried to kill her. Well, all of that and the fact that her captors were perfect gentlemen.
That transcript should be worth a post, or two.
Flopping Aces also notes the lack of MSM coverage of this story. And when you stop by be sure to view the new Iraqi Checkpoint signage. It’s a hoot.
I also made a quick pass thru TalkLeft’s blog. It’s now 16 hours after this story broke. Funny, after giving this communist wench 24/7 coverage when the incident occured, nothing about this vindication of the US Military. BITCH!
