How about this one for starters! “Border Patrol Takes Fire From Across Border.”
SOUTH OF ALAMO – Border Patrol agents come under automatic weapons fire from across the Rio Grande after finding a truck being loaded with drugs near the river in Hidalgo County.
No agents were injured in the exchange. All Border Patrol agents in the area, as well as all local law enforcement agencies responded to the scene. It is unknown if agents were able to wound their attackers across the border.
The attack came about 7 pm, as three Border Patrol units were patrolling when they noticed a truck being loaded with narcotics. When they moved in, that is when they started taking fire.
“As the agents moved into get a closer inspection of the area they encountered a narcotics load brought across,” said spokesman J.R. Villareal. “Shortly afterwards (the smugglers) noticed the agent, and started taking shots from the Mexican side with automatic weapons.”
The attack occurred at the same spot where agents last Friday caught smugglers with 600 pound of marijuana.
The truck loaded with drugs managed to get away. It is an older model brown Ford Truck with a tarp covering the bed. Anyone with information is asked to call the Rio Grande Valley Sector office at 618-8163.
Can someone explain to me how the truck got away? You have to assume after having a similar event occur the previous week their were a fairly large number of agents in the area. Add to that the local authorities. True enough it sounds like a single agent was the first on the scene but something smells! And no doubt the gunfire was designed to keep authorities “busy” as the truck made it’s way out of the area, but still. This didn’t happen smack in the middle of a major interstate cloverleaf connecting three highways! This was in the middle of nowheresville!
In related border news: Fat Boy Ted and quasi-Republican John McCain have teamed up to author an immigration reform bill that would allow some of the estimated 10-12 million illegal immigrants in the United States to get legal jobs and eventual citizenship.
McCain was quoted as saying, “For far too long, our nation’s broken immigration laws have gone unreformed leaving Americans vulnerable. We can no longer afford to delay reform.” How offering temporary work permits that are of six year duration cures that I have no clue. And I would question the validity of any “background checks.” Every major metro area in the US operates under sanctuary city laws. Local law enforcement’s hands are tied the second “illegal immigant” is voiced.
Given the background of Bush’s previous efforts in this area – amnesty equals a new flood of illegals crossing the border – I would suggest Fat Boy and McCain join Mexican President Fox in publishing more Mexican comic books outlining all the illegal ways to enter the USA. Without stopping the flow of illegals first any immigration reform is an exercise in futility and will have no practical or positive result !
