KTM admits his and the Security Councils utter incompetence.
U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan warned the Bush administration that the Security Council might deadlock if asked to punish Iran for its nuclear program.
The United States and Britain have called for Iran to be brought before the Security Council if it carries out threats to resume efforts to make nuclear fuel. The United States and Britain believe the fuel could be used for bombs, while Iran contends that it is to generate power. China and Russia, which have strong economic ties to Iran, might veto any push to sanction Iran, Annan suggested in interviews with USA TODAY.
“Action or inaction will have a great impact on future cases and on our efforts to promote nuclear non-proliferation,” Annan said. A deadlock on Iran, he said, could embolden North Korea and future North Koreas.
Which is it Kofi, “action or inaction?” You can’t have both. You either have to actively intercede and enforce the non-proliferation treaty or you follow the “Iraqi model,” wait 12 years, pour billions into the Mullahs pockets with an end result of the first Arabic atom bomb.
Capt’n Ed sums it up nicely: “We know by experience that the UN is incompetent, impotent, and corrupt. It’s hilarious that the leader of the organization feels it necessary to publicly warn the Anglosphere of the first two in such a bald manner.”
UPDATE: Did you know Kofi was a comedian? No! Well have a look via UN apoligists The UN Dispatch who quote Annan’s commencement address given at University of Pennsylvania. Not exactly comedy gold but funny none the less. Here is a small section I had a chuckle over:
You have had a precious opportunity at this great university. You have explored the realm of ideas – ideas about what is true and false, what is right and wrong, what works and what does not.”
If Penn is teaching what is true and false I suggest Kofi apply for a scholarship. Failing that he could convert a few of those Oil for Food millions into tuition. Kofi the Magnificent continues:
“They [UN diplomats] are working today to offer hope to the people of Haiti, Kosovo, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Cote d’Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Sudan, and a host of other countries.”
Would that be the same Kosovo that was handed to the UN 5 plus years ago. The one that still has no functioning government and religious strife rules the day. No need to mention the Kofi sponsored sex shops in the Sudan and Congo among other places the UN lords master over. Kofi himself brushed it off as a problem for the “peacekeepers” home countries, so I won’t waste my time.
On second thought comedian may not be the correct description to use, bloviating incompetent fits much better.
