It’s hard to forget Sen. George Voinovich weeping willow act before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on John Bolton’s nomination the United Nations post.
Democrats metaphorically cried about Bolton’s need for “anger management” therapy, “bully” tactics and accused him of being a “serial abuser” who kissed the ass of those above him and kicked the same of those of a lesser rank.
Bolstered by the Democrats Sen. Vionovich did the Dems one better by letting the tears flow for real as he backstabbed his fellow Republicans by saying he simply didn’t know enough about the charges to vote on Bolton. That effectivly ended the process and President Bush did an end around the entire charade and gave Bolton a recess appointment to the post.
How times change. Hear that beep, beep, beep? That’s Voinovich’s reverse gear warning system going off. Now after “after countless conversations and hours of research into his [Bolton’s] professional record” he’s decided Bush had it right all along and will support Bolton if he’s renominated as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.
Bush will in all probability renominate Bolton and it will reignite the controversy, but the Senate Committee won’t be provided another episode of Voinovich’s crying game.
And that’s a good thing. Unless your a member of the drive-by media who would relish another oppotunity re-run the weepy Voinovich ad infinitum.
