Asian Tribune: UN Paralysed Over Israeli Attacks on Lebanon
But that’s as far as the honesty goes, the headline. Then it devolves into the normal appeasement tripe of “U.S. support for an intransigent Israel,” “disproportionate use of Israeli firepower,” and the ever popular screed, but false notion, “it’s the human rights stupid!:
Louise Arbour, the U.N. high commissioner for human rights, has implicitly accused Israel of war crimes. “The scale of the killings in the region, and their predictability, could engage the personal criminal responsibility of those involved, particularly those in a position of command and control,” she points out.
Not a single condemnation from Arbour over Hezbollah crossing into Israel to kidnap Israeli soldiers to be ransomed for convicted criminals and terrorists. No denouncement of Hezbollah for fighting from and storing war supplies within the civilian population of Lebanon.
I suppose we can presume Arbour also won’t show any disapproval of UNIFIL who has been on the ground in Lebanon for 28 years with zero to show for it. According to Security Council resolutions 425 (1978) and 426 (1978) of 19 March 1978, UNIFIL’s mandate includes the following:
- Confirm the withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon;
- Restore international peace and security;
- Assist the Government of Lebanon in ensuring the return of its effective authority in the area.
As I said they have nothing to show for 28 years. Nothing.
And the cost of that nothing over the last year? Just short of $100 million dollars for 1,990 troops ( China, France, Ghana, India, Ireland, Italy, Poland and Ukraine) commanded by… you guessed it, a French Major-General.
Why am I not surprised?
