So the cat, and the NIE leaker, is out of the bag. The NIE was complied from the government’s 16 spy agencies, completed in April and leaked to, and published by the NYT last month.
As a result of the selectivity of the excerpts leaked the [Dim]crats and anti-war types immediately seized on it as a basis of another round of political rhetoric.
At the time Bush suggested the document was leaked for “political purposes” weeks before the midterm elections. He later made public four pages of the estimate’s key findings.
Unsurprisingly he may have been spot on. But we all kinew that didn’t we? The AP is reporting House Intelligence Committee Chairman Peter Hoekstra has pulled the security clearance of a [Dim]ocratic staff member pending an investigation into whether he leaked the NIE to the NYT.
In a letter to Hoekstra dated Sept. 29, Rep. Ray LaHood (news, bio, voting record), R-Ill., a committee member, said the Democratic staffer requested the document from National Intelligence Director John Negroponte three days before a Sept. 23 story by the Times on its conclusions.
“I have no credible information to say any classified information was leaked from the committee’s minority staff, but the implications of such would be dramatic,” LaHood said in the letter, a copy of which was obtained by The Associated Press. “This may, in fact, be only coincidence, and simply ‘look bad.’ But coincidence, in this town, is rare.”
The response from the Dims is predictable: The Intelligence Committee’s top Democrat, Jane Harman of California, wrote to Hoekstra that she was “appalled” by his action, which was “without basis.”
“I demand that you immediately reinstate the staffer’s access to classified information,” she said.
Typical isn’t it? Damn any investigation, damn any possibility he may in fact be guilty and still have access to classified documents (and leak more material). Just damn it to all hell, give’em his job back!!!!
What a bunch of freakin’ children!
And BTW, as I write this the story is only 3 hours old. I fully expect more pleading little sheep bleats heard from more [Dim]ocrats echoing the same tripe heard from Harman. Bank on it.
