As expected Saddam received a death sentence by hanging for crimes against humanity. al-Reuters describes his demeanor as the sentence was handed down as “visably shaken.” Typical al-Reuters, play-up Saddam as sympathetic figure as possible.
The only thing visable was a defiant Saddam who refused to stand during the reading of the verdict and had to be jerked to his feet by two bailiffs.
Upon hearing the sentence he off on a Saddam patented rant of “Allahu Akbar” in addition to the normal “death to America” crapola and “Long live the people and death to their enemies. Long live the glorious nation, and death to its enemies!”.
Former revolutionary chief judge Awad Hamed al-Bander and Saddam’s half brother and former intelligence chief Barzan Ibrahim al-Tikriti also face the tight end of a rope.
The former Prime Minister got life in prison, three other officials received 15 year sentences, and one was acquitted for lack of evidence.
Also as expected, Saddam apologist-under-retainer Ramsey Clark, was tossed from the court room.
Gateway Pundit has posted some screen caps and other images of the trial proceedings.
