Obama has ordered 1200 U.S. troops to the U.S. Mexican border, at the time I assumed it was a token effort – because in actuality that’s only about 1.5 men per mile – but now word is it’s much worse than first thought.
Via the U.S. State Department:
US National Guard troops being sent to the Mexican border will be used to stem the flow of guns and drugs across the frontier and not to enforce US immigration laws, the State Department said Wednesday.
The clarification came after the Mexican government urged Washington not to use the additional troops to go after illegal immigrants.
President Barack Obama on Tuesday authorized the deployment of up to 1,200 additional troops to border areas but State Department spokesman Philip Crowley told reporters, “It’s not about immigration.”
He said the move was “fully consistent with our efforts to do our part to stem, you know, violence, to interdict the flow of dangerous people and dangerous goods — drugs, guns, people.”
(Emphasis mine) So it’s not enough to allow the Mexican president to stand before Congress and lie about the Arizona law and receive a standing ovation from some asshats – mostly Dems – now we have this token effort undermined by the complete failure to perform the governments primary job – PROTECT U.S. CITIZENS!
“We have explained the president’s announcement to the government of Mexico, and they fully understand the rationale behind it,” State Dept spokesman P.J. Crowley said.
Sure they do, and no doubt comforted to the point of taking extra long siestas by Obama’s capitulation to Calderon’s demands troops not be used for tracking down and capturing illegal immigrants.
The Mexican government is dependent on remittances from both legal and illegal Mexican immigrants as they are the second largest source of dollars behind the export of oil.
The phrase “follow the money” applies, and so does malfeasance with respect to Obama’s actions.
I think it’s safe to assume illegals will be able to thumb their noses – if not flash the Bird – at the 1200 Guardsmen as they flee into the U.S. as long as they are unarmed.
And before I close, note Crowley is perpetuating the lie 90% of guns found in Mexico come from the U.S.
90% of traced firearms originate from the U.S.
A large percentage of the guns recovered in Mexico do not get sent back to the U.S. for tracing, because it is obvious from their markings that they do not come from the U.S.
“Not every weapon seized in Mexico has a serial number on it that would make it traceable, and the U.S. effort to trace weapons really only extends to weapons that have been in the U.S. market,” Matt Allen, special agent of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), told FOX News.
The facts are:
In 2007-2008, according to ATF Special Agent William Newell, Mexico submitted 11,000 guns to the ATF for tracing. Close to 6,000 were successfully traced — and of those, 90 percent — 5,114 to be exact, according to testimony in Congress by William Hoover — were found to have come from the U.S.
But in those same two years, according to the Mexican government, 29,000 guns were recovered at crime scenes.
In other words, 68 percent of the guns that were recovered were never submitted for tracing. And when you weed out the roughly 6,000 guns that could not be traced from the remaining 32 percent, it means 83 percent of the guns found at crime scenes in Mexico could not be traced to the U.S.
